I kept to the shadows as they fell across the cul-de-sac. Leaves scooted across the pavement in the autumn breeze. I glanced up at the setting sun. It was almost behind the farmer boy's house. 'They should be out soon.' I thought to myself. And no sooner than the thought crossed my mind, a door to one of the houses creaked open warily.
I leapt hurriedly into the nearby bushes, throat tight with anticipation. A tall, lean, muscular red head with minty green eyes and a baseball cap emerged from behind the door, brandishing an aluminum baseball bat. Then the door to a yellow house on door over from the batter's house opened. "We'll be fine mom! I promise!" a loud, angsty voice yelled into what I assumed was the living room. I perked up from my hiding spot in the bushes. 'Could it be? The prey I have been seeking? No, I need two more as well…' I settled back down, trying to gather my patience. The subject of the hunt came into view. Six foot something of hard and heavy muscle that rippled under dark, baggy clothes, paired with icy blue eyes and topped with bluish black hair.  He was something to look at, even more so than his brother. 'So he's a vampire?' I thought to myself. He was beautiful enough, but he wasn't plagued by "the smell either".  "It took you long enough!" the batter boy growled. "Put a sock in it shovel chin! I can't just go walking out of my parents' house with a gun strapped to my back, and expect everything to be just fine!" the taller boy snapped. "What did you tell them then?" the red head asked curiously. "Varmint huntin'. What'd you tell your folks?" "That Rolf was stressed and me and him were going to play some late night ball to blow off some steam." "Really Kevin?" "What?" "Did your parents really buy that?" "Well unlike you, I haven't done too much to betray my parents' trust Eddy." "Whatever." Eddy grumbled. Two more kids came up to the snappy pair, one boy with a lanky build and beautiful long raven hair and extremely oversized clothes and a tomboyish blonde in a tight shirt and baggy pants. "Hey guys." The blonde greeted. "Yo Nazz." Greeted Kevin. "Hey Nazz. Hey Double D." Eddy said, rather somberly. "Gentlemen." Double D greeted. "Hey Double Dweeb. Where are MichelEdgelo and Rolf?" Kevin asked. "Ed said that he needed to finish something real fast and I was just about to ask you the same question about Rolf." Double D answered. "Oh Rolf called me a little while ago. He's busy having a panic attack and his parents are trying to calm him down." Nazz explained. "Well he better get here soon, my show was on!" Eddy grumbled. "Do calm down Eddy. I wonder what could be taking Ed so long. And where is Johnny?" the cul-de-sac kids fell silent for a moment, looking around at the houses to see if Johnny was among them. "I haven't seen Johnny since school." Nazz whispered hoarsely in panic. "Me either." the boys echoed back quietly. Just then, the loud screech of the basement window of a purple house nearly sent all the teen before me out of their skins. From the window emerged a medium sized boy with a large head and wooly hair crawled through the window, followed by a tall, built but not stacked red head. There is a large amount of red heads in this neighborhood for some reason. There was the little red headed girl that hung out with an effeminate blonde boy, and the sheep headed red head that lurked in the trailer with two others. "And where have you two been?" Eddy demanded. "Chill out Eddy, I was just helping Ed with his new comic." the wooly boy defended. "Yeah Eddy what has your boxers in a bunch mister?" Ed said in a tut-tut sort of way. "You must not remember why we're all here Ed." The group fell suddenly silent as what I assumed to be the back door to the farm house swung open. Heavy foot falls sounded behind me, ant the air was permeated with the scent of fear and anxiety. "Rolf would like to thank you all for showing up in his dire time of need." "What is it Rolf?" Eddy asked nervously, his right hand reaching over his left shoulder to palm the barrel of the shot gun, as if in reassurance. "Yeah Rolf, what's up man?" I could hear Kevin gulp from as far as I was, and I saw his grip tighten on the baseball bat. "Tragedy has settled over the house of Rolf. This son of a shepherd fears one of his chickens has been ripped to pieces!!!!" I sensed groans of disapproval coming but Rolf continued. "Yes, I believe Gertrude has fallen prey to…another creature of the night!!" Any previous thoughts of "I'm going home." or "I don't want to be here flew out the window. "A creature of the night!?" Eddy shouted in panic. "Rolf, are you sure?" Double D asked sternly. "Rolf is as sure as you are smart Ed boy! You dare to question Rolf in his grief?! YOU MUST DIE!!!" "Hang on there Stretch!" Eddy said, grabbing a livid Rolf by the shoulder. "Double D was asking a legit question. You do tend to exaggerate over your animals Rolf." "Yeah, how do we know you just haven't been hittin' the stew too hard?"* Kevin theorized. "Fools! You dare poke fun at Rolf's sorrow!? Rolf knows the beast exists BECAUSE HE'S SEEN IT!!" Suddenly, gasps. "What did it look like Rolf?!" "Come, Rolf will show you what he found in his back yard once he came to his senses." I eyed the small troop as they disappeared behind me into Rolf's back yard. I waited a while then leapt out of the bushes. I grinned wickedly to myself. "The stage has been set and the actors are eagerly shifting through their scripts. Tonight's performance will go undoubtedly perfect. It must, least I risk my title of simply being one hell of a werewolf." And with that I snapped into wolf form and dashed to the woods, awaiting the approach of the flies to my web.
